Camille E. Reed started her natural hair career in 1999, at DISC Design Hair Studio in Silver Spring, MD. Under the tutelage of seven veteran hairstylist (with 15 to 20 years of experience, each) she was taught barbering, hair coloring, hair cutting, natural hair styling and loc maintenance. In 2003, Camille participated and had her work published in Allen Media Group’s publication called “Braids Magazine” and later that year participated in Glen Jackson’s Natural hair and Braids competition and fashion show. The following year, 2004, more of her work was published in another local publication, photos taken by photographer Frantz, for Braids & Beauty Magazine.
After receiving her State Board of Cosmetology License under the State of Maryland’s Apprenticeship Program in 2005, Camille was offered a part-ownership position at Girlfriend’s Hair Salon in Washington D.C. During this 15 month time period, the salon’s clientele, web presence, branding and reputation for doing great hair spread across the Washington area. After closing the salon in D.C, she re-located , opened and became the single owner of Noire Salon in Silver Spring, MD. Noire Salon’s work and staff are known all over the city for their supreme professionalism and excellence in natural hair care.
In 2008 and 2009, photos taken by Keston Duke, Camille’s work was published in Black Hair Sophisticates Magazine. She was also quoted in Essence’s premiere “Hot Hair” (October 2010) on page 37 in an article by blogger/journalist Patrice Grell Yursik (aka “AfroBella) and her work made the following year’s Essence Hot Hair COVER (October 2011). In 2012, she participated in a question and answer series at CUPCAKES & COCKTAILS in Suitland, Maryland and at Koils by Nature NATIONAL NATURAL HAIR MEETUP DAY in Northern Virginia.
In October of 2012, Camille launched Noire Salon Blog on Wordpress.com. This blog is designed to be a professional stylists first-person perspective of the natural hair culture, salon happenings and information on products and fellow industry leaders.
She is also co-host with Oraje Nefertum on a blogtalkradio.com program called THE CONVERSATION, which airs every Friday at 9pm.
